History & Heritage
G H Sumner started repairing and selling radios from a small shed based on the current site way back in 1923, as technology has moved on so has the business. Sumner’s were one of the first retailers in the area to specialise in the sale and repair of televisions and the business has pioneered new technology throughout decades of successful growth.
Founded in 1923 by George Harold Sumner (grandfather to Joanna).
The business was selling and repairing radios and charging equipment (batteries),

In 1958 Alex Sumner joined his father at age 13, working when not in school.
Alex became an engineer, repairing radios and televisions. He introduced the brands National Panasonic and then Sony. Alex rebuilt the shop into the showroom we see today.

In 1984 Jason joined the company aged 19.
Jason started as a delivery driver for Sumners. He then progressed into sales, growing the company, and adding brands such as Samsung, LG, Bose and Sonos. Jason took over the business in 2018.

In 1985 Joanna (grand daughter to founder George) joined the business.
She took a place in the accounts department and later became Accounts Manager, bringing the accounting procedures up to date and introducing computerisation. She now runs the business with husband Jason.
